Community service is important for college students as it helps them acquire knowledge and skills while providing a service to others in need. Some of the benefits of community service for college students are:
  • Social Benefits: College students can engage with the community, and it helps them create a special bond with the population. It also helps increase social responsibility.
  • Psychological Benefits: Volunteering for community service brings life satisfaction and help college students feel good about themselves. It can help in decreasing depression and stress.
  • Cognitive Benefits: Community service for college students helps them develop their knowledge, skills and gain new experience.
Community service makes a difference for the community, the organization being served and to the students themselves. It helps the student enhance their resume by helping them to acquire work-related skills while they are still in college. Volunteering also helps them provide good references for future employers regarding community service. Community service also provides college students an avenue to work on networking with potential employers, develop civic responsibilities, and become aware of their community’s needs.
